Sultan
Macapanton Y. Abbas, Jr. is a lawyer,
academic, consultant and prominent business
and community leader. He has been a prominent
figure in the Muslim-Filipino affairs.
He
was one of the founding members of the
Bangsa Moro Liberation Organization
(BMLO), and presented the case of
the Muslim-Filipinos to the Organization
of Islamic Conference after the declaration
of Martial Law in 1972.
He
was a dissident during the Marcos regime,
but was pardoned by during the term of
Pres. Corazon C. Aquino.
He
is currently Secretary General of the
Philippine Muslim Leaders Forum, and Undersecretary
for Muslim Affairs of the Department of
Education.
He
has the distinction of having held both
the Corps Commandership of the Ateneo
ROTC unit, and the Presidency of the student
government. He also graduated Cum Laude.
He earned his Bachelor of Laws degree
from the University of the Philippines
in 1967.
