Class of 1992 > School Year Evaluation

Much of the early part of this text is taken from the Commandant's briefing for the Annual Tactical Inspection Competition. The evaluation for the Corps of Sponsors was prepared by the Commander of the Sponsors organization: Marie Arlene N. Pastoriza.

This was the unit's perception of its situation at the time, and should not be taken as the ADROTH Project's position.

Mission

The mission of this CMT unit is to train and develop college students in the rudiments of military service and produce capable Armed Forces of the Philippine (AFP) reservists.

Objectives

The general objectives of the courses of instruction in the Citizen Military Training Corps are:

  • To prepare college students for possible service in the defense establishment in the event of an emergency
  • To train officers and enlisted reservists for the reserve components of the AFP
  • To train potential officers for possible commissionship in the AFP

Own Situation

Despite the numerous constraints that have bedeviled the unit this past year, it can be said with little reservation, that it has achieved all that could be asked of it, and that it has done its humble share in the accomplishment of the 11RCDU's overall mission. This is attributed to the concerted efforts of the Corps of Cadet Officers, Assistant Military Instructor, our Dean of Sponsors, and the school administration as a whole.

Intelligence

Despite the increase in number of the members of the Kabataang Makabayan, an infamous, influencial organization, that in the past has already managed to oust two Ateneo ROTC Corps Commanders (SY 71-72), the intelligence picture is generally positive. The appeal of the leftist movement in the campus has ebbed, as evidenced by the dwindling student participation in leftist inspired activities. Criminality has decreased and police personnel have been enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Assistance is received from the Ateneo Security Team for Emergency Conditions (ASTEC), an organization composed of students and faculty (who were also members of civic groups, e.g. REACT, Philippine National Red Cross, Filipino-Chinese Fire Fighters, etc.) who provide emergency assistance both within and outside the campus.

Status of Enrollment

There was a reduction in the number of enrollees in the second semester compared with the first. For Basic CMT cadets, the reduction was 10% for the fourth class, from a first semester enrollment of 520 to 468 in the second semester, 11.73% for the third class which shrank from 307 in the first semester to 271 in the second.

For the Advance, the decrease was 30% for the second class which dropped from 7 in the first semester to 5 in the second, and 40% for the first class, from 5 to 3

Enrollment in the Women's Auxiliary Training Corps was low. Though enrollment for third class WATC cadettes (MS-21 & MS-22) has remained constant, at one enrollee, the fourth class enrollment has dipped by 33% or one cadette. There were no Advance WATC enrollees.

Status of Training

For MS-11, 322 cadets or 61.9% of the total enrolled successfully completed the course. For MS-21, the figure is 215 or 70%. All Advance CMT and WATC cadettes completed their military subjects
Problems

Webmaster's note: It should be mentioned that, at the time, the unit did not recieve financial subsidies of any kind; no CMT fee was received from cadets. This this was undeniably the greatest problem for unit operations, but it was not included in the list of problems because at the time, financial resourcefulness had come to be expected of cadets.

  • Lack of grandstand / stage.
  • Lack of classrooms for instruction.
  • Lack of a reliable parade ground.
  • Lack of office supplies.
  • Lack of arms rack.
